I made a new table and bench!

I'm so in love with how it turned out.

I used the plans from the great Ana White and modified it for my size.

Staining was a nightmare.  I had to use many colors as weathered grey was way too blue.

I also like to use my kitchen counter and living room as work spaces.  Doesn't everyone else?

Of course my $90 table turned into painting the walls, buying a new light fixture and buying new chairs.  $300 dollars later.... but so worth it.

Katniss Cowl

Oh this was so fun to make.  As soon as I saw this in the movie, I knew I had to make it.  I've never created a pattern before, there was lots of doing and undoing, but I am very pleased.  Pattern to follow soon.

Yes, that is my sexy butt.  Husband was taking photo.

I got myself a Silhouette Portrait for Christmas!

Best gift ever!

Here is my first creation.

Project Run and Play time again

This weeks theme is Polka Dots and Stripes.

I used the racer back dress tutorial from the blog Crafterhours found here. This was my second attempt at sewing with knits and this pattern, and I have to say that I did a lot better this time!  I'm definitely going to try sewing with knits way more now.  Surprisingly it's way easier than non-knit. I did not do it as a bias tape around the armhole and neck hole.  I did it more like how t-shirts are and it was way easier.  I used this tutorial found here.

Sew-Vivor

Ok, time to try another contest.  I wanted a white dress because I wanted to try the ombre dying technique.  I created this dress with a mixture of two patterns.  I then dipped this dress in the dye bath, took only a couple minutes.  I hope you all (particularly the judges) like it.  My darling Elizabeth does!

Wish me luck!  I'd love to make the top 10!

Last week of Project Run and Play

Lots going on in my life right now and sadly haven't been able to sew, but I was able to knock out this outfit.    The last challenge was for a "Signature Look".  I think this is totally me.  A high waist skirt and a little blazer.  Can be dressed up or casual.

My attempt at Project Run and Play

The task was to remix The June Bug Dress

Here's the link to the flikr group to see the other great creations.

Well… My first attempt was a disaster.  The seam from the skirt and the bodice was way too crooked.  Lesson number 1: make sure to properly cut out a pattern.  This was my first time at making a pattern from scratch and I’ve learned a lot.  I’m very happy with the final product, just not happy with it on her.  The fit is off.  It is my goal to remake it, again.

Seeing how my daughter is 8 and sassy, and loves the crazy clothes at Justice, I wanted to make something “fashion forward” for her.  I did not want the bib look, so I made the “bib” part out of a matte fabric to help show the contract and give the look of a bib.  The buttons add a nice detail, I think.  I love ruffles.  With my new serger, I could make ruffles all day long!  I’m sure we will be seeing a lot of ruffles in the near future.
Yes, my Christmas tree is still up.

Say hello to our dog Buster.  He's getting old, its in his eyes.

Here's where I use the ruffle as a collar

Mom, leave me alone so I can play on my iPad.

This is what I normally look like before we play dress up.
